PROFESSION:
• Bilingual Tour Guide (English/Spanish). Certification obtained by the Federal Ministry of Tourism on a PERMANENT basis, with 13 years of experience guiding groups in south-eastern Mexico with special emphasis on history, archaeology and ethnography of the Mayan Route.
• Professor and lecturer on issues related to tourism, social sciences and humanities. I am a passionate historian.

 
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION:
• Bachelor of Language Teaching, majored in English Literature with one year in Master of Education and Cultural Diversity from the National Teaching University (UPN).
• Interpreter in English Language accredited by the Center for Foreign Languages and Reading Comprehension of the Faculty of Science & Humanities of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

 MAJOR ACTIVITIES:
¸ From 1994-1995 and from 2000 to 2004:
• Tourist Delegate for the Chiapas Ministry of Tourism in the Highlands of Chiapas (Founder member).
¸ From 1996 - 1998:
• Municipal Director of Tourism in San Cristobal de Las Casas.
¸ October 2003-2008:
• Chairwoman of the Chiapas Tourist Guides Association.
¸ From 1994 up to date:
• Professional Tour Guide certified by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism and expert in the fields of Ethnography, History of Colonial Art and Mesoamerican Archaeology.
• Adviser in the region and coordinator of special events as an interpreter, lecturer  and guiding groups of ambassadors, ministers of state, national and international press groups and distinguished guests for the Chiapas Public Relations Ministry.
• Instructor and organizer of several courses for training general travel guides in the subjects of Colonial Art History, Folk Art of Mexico, Geography and Ethnography of Chiapas, Legal Aspects of Tourism and Mesoamerican Archaeology.
• Proven experience in organizing congresses and conventions.

To begin with, this is a taste of Chiapas, with a few examples of our trips:

• TOUR:  LIVING CULTURES.
We leave San Cristobal de Las Casas towards the tsotsil communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán. An encounter with their customs, rituals and astonishing Mayan traditions.  

• A NATURALLY ARCHAEOLOGICAL TOUR:
This is a 5 days tour. We leave San Cristobal de Las Casas heading towards the region of the Lacandon Jungle and ending up at Villahermosa airport. This trip will be an encounter with the evergreen rain forest of Chiapas, visits to ancient Mayan cities, and a cruise up the Usumacienta River.

• TOUR: THE TREASURE OF MAYAN TEXTILES.
This trip is focused on the textile traditions of the Mayans of the Highlands of Chiapas.  From San Cristobal de las Casas, we will tour around two indigenous Mayan communities that have preserved ancient techniques with their backstrap loom and natural dyeing.

To begin with, this is a taste of Chiapas, with a few examples of our trips:

TOUR:  LIVING CULTURES.

We leave San Cristobal de Las Casas towards the tsotsil communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán. An encounter with their customs, rituals and astonishing Mayan traditions.  The Maya Tsotsiles are most closely tied to the traditions of their Ancestors: their simple homes, surrounded by cornfields, the daily rituals and structure of their society, the folk art and religious ceremonies give us an insight to the Maya culture as preserved since ancient times. The extraordinary local church of San Juan Chamula is where these people have joined Catholic and ancient Mayan religion into a new vision of the sacred nature of the world.  At Zinacantán a local family will open us their home and reveal their lifestyle.

A NATURALLY ARCHAEOLOGICAL TOUR:

We leave San Cristobal de Las Casas early in the morning, heading towards the region of the Lacandon jungle. This first day we will have our breakfast in Ocosingo and visit the magnificent archaeological site of Toniná. We continue towards the breathtaking waterfalls of Agua Azul and spend the night in Palenque. The next day, we go to the heart of the Lacandon Jungle to visit the captivating murals of the ancient Maya city of Bonampak, and then, a fascinating walk through the path of the Rio Lacanja. To conclude this day, we will swim in the delightful waterfalls called Nest of Swallows and then we will sleep in a jungle lodge inside the Lacandon rainforest. The next day, we will visit the enigmatic Mayan city of Yaxchilán and we will go on a boat trip across the striking Usumacinta River. We will end up our day in Palenque. To finish our trip, we will visit the astounding archaeological site of Palenque followed by transfer to Villahermosa airport.


TOUR: THE TREASURE OF MAYAN TEXTILES.

This trip is focused on the textile traditions of the Mayans of the Highlands of Chiapas.  From San Cristobal de las Casas, we will visit various craft workshops, a local museum of regional costumes and textiles, and will tour around two indigenous Mayan communities that have preserved their textiles. We will watch these weavers making their ritual and daily costumes, as well as their ancient techniques of embroidery and brocade with their back trap loom. We will also discover how natural dyes have created wonderful works of art in their great variety of woven textiles.
