La Casa del Pan Papalotl is an artisan bakery, local foods shop and organic vegetarian restaurant/café offering a wide variety of homemade food, using mostly organic and whole grain ingredients. Produce is locally sourced and La Casa del Pan is committed to the principles of fair trade. The menu ranges from authentic Mexican vegetarian entrées such as tamales to exotic desserts such as rhubarb and mango pie. Organic Chiapas Coffee is freshly ground and brewed by the cup.
From its conception, Casa del Pan has made the customer’s and the planet’s health our top priority, and we believe these two are entirely dependent on each other. We focus on the preparation of organic breads and meals from scratch, with our own home-grown veggies, or those sourced from local organic producers. We seek to have a positive impact on the quality of life in our community, while helping to raise awareness of ecological issues.

There are currently five locations of La Casa del Pan Papalotl, and each is independently owned and operated, as well as having its own unique style and menu. In every one, the “Papalotl” (butterfly) carries in its flight the message of a positive alternative for your health, pleasure and awareness.

Open Tues.-Sun. 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Since 1989, in the Parque Ecológico Loreto y Peña Pobre, amid a green oasis of centenarian trees at the foot of Cuicuilco, the oldest pyramid in America and the site of an ancient, living spring, you can enjoy an organic expreso coffee, juice, or full meal on the outdoor porch.

Since 1993, this Casa has the largest menu of all, as well as a stage for live Mexican and international music and a sidewalk café with view of the town and surrounding mountains. Famous among the locals for the best breakfast in town, this Casa also boasts fantastic mole enchiladas, tamales and the best whole-grain veggie burgers.

Since 2005, this Casa features a daily midday buffet with freshly harvested vegetables from the rooftop garden, fresh local fruit drinks and desserts, organic expresso coffee and homemade bread from Chiapas organic wheat, serving up new recipes invented continuously, as well as regional and international cultural events such as art exhibits, live concerts, dances, talks and movies.
